Photography Class Week 2 part 2

The second part of this week's lesson is all about aperture.  I just love knowing how to achieve a blurry background with the focus completely on my subject.  In this case, the subject is my beautiful daughter.  I want those who see this picture to focus on that beautiful smile of hers!!!

Camera:  EOS 10D
Shutter Speed:  1/750
f-stop:  1/1.8
ISO:  100
Focal Length:  50mm 1.8

The second photo is a little more romantic and sweet and I like seeing the leaves behind her.

Camera:  Canon EOS Rebel
Shutter Speed: 1/8
F-stop: f/13.0
Aperture:f/13
ISO 100
I love being in control of my camera and achieving the look that I am striving for instead of hoping my camera will see what I see!!

Thanks for looking!!
Have a great evening!!!

Thinking of those who Protect our Country!!

Wow, I can't believe its Memorial Day!!!  In all honesty, it has always meant the beginning of Summer!!!  Time for warm weather, picnics, drives into Yellowstone, camping....and the list goes on!  Today, it has much more significance now that my son is one of the brave young men who are willing to make a sacrifice for their country!  Don't get me wrong, I have always given thought to Veterans and how thankful I am for their sacrifice, but they weren't in the forefront of my thoughts.  That has all changed now.  It is a very sensitive subject very close to my heart!!
I trust that our dear Heavenly Father is watching over our troops even now!!  Thank you to all those who are willing to fight for our freedom!!  I appreciate each and every one of you!

Scrapping the Music!!!!

This week's song at Scrapping the Music is absolutely fantastic to scrap!!!!  I just have to post the lyrics so you can see for yourself!!!

At twenty years of age
I'm still looking for a dream
A war is already waged for my destiny
But You've already won the battle
And You've got great plans for me
Though I can't always see, 'cause...

I got a couple dents in my fender
Got a couple rips in my jeans
Try to fit the pieces together
But perfection is my enemy
And on my own I'm so clumsy
But on Your shoulders I can see
I'm free to be me

When I was just a girl
I thought I had it figured out
See my life will turn out right
And I'll make it here somehow
But things don't always come that easy
And sometimes I would doubt, 'cause...

And you're free to be you

Sometimes I believe
That I can do anything
Yet other times I think
I've got nothing good to bring

But You look at my heart and you tell me
That I've got all You seek
And it's easy to believe, even though...

And you're free to be you

I love this song so much I think I will do another layout using these lyrics!!!  I chose to do a little poppet doll of myself based on Claudine Hellmuth's Poppets.  I altered my photo in photoshop and cut out the dress out of various patterned papers.

I used those things that I love including butterflies and birdhouses, lace and pearls.  Of course, Pink had to be a major color and I used Webster's Pages papers which are one of my favorite manufacturers.  The journaling I used was:  Perfection is my enemy, On my own I'm so clumsy, on Your shoulders I can see....I'm free to be me.

On His shoulders!! Isn't that the key in life!!!  I am free to be who He created me to be.  It doesn't matter what other's think.  In Him I can do all things and I can just be me!!  Thank you Lord for being in my life and making me who I am today!!!  I have many flaws, but He loves me just the way I am and He loves you too!!!  I hope you come and play at Scrapping the Music this week!!! This song is awesome!!!

So Sketchy and Color Me Daisy News!!!

Here is the latest sketch by Allison Cope at the  So Sketchy Blog!!!  Allison has graciously allowed us to use this sketch over at Color Me Daisy for our week #4 Sketch Challenge!!!
Here is my take on this sketch:

I just loved the Pink Paislee Papers with these pictures!!  I haven't found many papers that will work well with sports photos, but these papers were perfect!!!  Benny was pitching for his 11 year old team and he did fairly well!! Those were the days when summer was full of baseball!!!

Please stop by So Sketchy and check out Allison's sketches and then  head on over to Color Me Daisy and check out thech challenges!!!  You'll be glad you did!!

I hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day!!!

Little Red Scrapbook Gallery Reveal!!!!

Happy Wednesday everyone!!!
Today is my long working day, 8:30 am - 9:30 pm, but I am ready to hit it head on with a great big smile on my face!!!!  This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it!!!

I am doing very well with my 30 day wellness challenge.  I have lost 4 pounds, whoo hoo, and I continue to exercise and eat right every day!!!  I am also continuing to finish my Esther Study and I also have a daily reading bible which is working out perfectly!!!  I hope you jump on board the Wellness Challenge, It feels great!!!

The Little  Red Scrapbook May Gallery is up and the DT has totally rocked October Afternoon!!!
I just loved this kit and I can't wait to share my designs with you!!!!

I used to love to dress my girls alike when they were little and of course pink was the dominant color.  I just had to do a pink layout with these October Afternoon papers.  What better title to use than....Think Pink???   The pictures were taken in 1988....Wow, over 20 years ago, Yikes!!
The next one is of my sweet oldest daughter.  Her hair finally grew long enough for pony tails.  Isn't she the cutest???  She just loved oreo cookies at that age.  If you ever stopped by our house back in the day, you would regularly see her wearing pony tails and eating oreo cookies!  The title and journaling state:  Pony Tails and Oreo cookies....a sweet combination!
The next layout is one I really like because I used colors I don't normally use in my layouts.  I usually steer clear of yellow and gray just does not move me.  So, I jumped out of my box and used both colors in one layout.  This was also done for the LRS May DT challenge.  I mixed it up a bit, but the elements are still there.   You can check out the Challenge here!!
B.S., that is, before scrapbooking, I used to sew.  My friends and I would do craft fairs and sell fancy children's dresses, dolls, embellished socks and hair bows........  The more lace the better and of course, the dolls that I made matched the dresses.  It was a very fun season in my life!!  Once my girls outgrew ribbons and lace, I found other ways to fulfill my crafty addiction.  This layout celebrates the fact that I Love to Create!!!

This next project is my favorite!!!  I took some leftover chipboard and painted it with Chalkboard Paint.  I cut out two scalloped rectangles, one a 1/4 inch larger than the other, with my Cricut Machine using the Storybook Cartridge.  I glued the chipboard onto the cardstock base, then I glued the patterned paper on top.  I added a scalloped trim using my Apron Lace Punch.  Then I cute out the cute little birds from the OA papers and embellished them with some pearls and added a jute hanger embellished with some beads and ribbon.  It was easy, fun and makes a functional decoration in any room!!!

BTW, if you are attending my open house......we are making these fun little projects!!!  I hope to see you there!!!
Last, but not least, is the little card I made mirroring the design in the chalkboard.  I am going to give it to a friend who is going through a very difficult time!!!

Thank you for looking at my creations!!!
I hope you have a fantastic day!!
Look to Him my friends!!!

LRS Sneaks!!!!

I just have to say I hope you were able to get a hold of an LRS May kit.  It is absolutely awesome!!!  I had a blast working with it.  In fact, I still have some papers left over that I am going to have to use up!!!  Both sides of each sheet of October Afternoon  Cherry Hill paper is absolutely fantastic!!! I almost wish I had 4 peices of each so I could use them all more than once.  I am so glad that LRS gives you two of each sheet of paper!!!  I would have agonized over which side to use!!  Any way without further ado, Here are my May sneaks....

Day 4 of my Commitment to Wellness

The treadmill is becoming my best friend and I can already tell that my countenance is improving!!!  What a difference it makes knowing that you are working to take better care of yourself!!!  I have cut soda out of my diet and I am eating in moderation.  That is probably the best change I have made so far!!!  I just kept on saying....I'll do it tomorrow...I'll do it the next day....but tomorrow didn't come until this week!  Thank goodness for Lisa and her challenge!!!

Not only am I changing my physical habits, but my spiritual habits too!!!  My Wellness Challenge theme song is Motions by Matthew West--absolutely awesome lyrics.  You can listen by clicking on the utube on the left!!

Lyrics:
This might hurt
It’s not safe
But I know that I’ve gotta make a change
I don’t care
If I break
At least I’ll be feeling something
‘Cause just ok
Is not enough
Help me fight through the nothingness of life

I don’t wanna go through the motions
I don’t wanna go one more day
Without Your all consuming passion inside of me
I don’t wanna spend my whole life asking
What if I had given everything?
Instead of going through the motions

No regrets
Not this time
I’m gonna let my heart defeat my mind
Let Your love
Make me whole
I think I’m finally feeling something

Take me all the way
Take me all the way
Take me all the way

So Sketchy!!

Here is my latest layout for the So Sketchy blog by Allison Cope!!  You will have to check out her site and play with her sketches!! They are awesome!!!  I know that she will be having a DT call soon and you will surely want to apply!!!
I was having some scrapper's block with this sketch, so I shrunk everything down and focused on the picture and the fact that my sweet girl just sparkles!!!    I used Collage Press tags to help support that theme.    Isn't she a cutie!!!

I hope your weekend starts off with a bang and that you walk in the light of His love!!!

A Commitment to Wellness

My friend Lisa inspired me to dedicate 30 days to a Commitment to Wellness.   Whoo hoo!!
It's about time!!  Beginning today and for the next 30 days Wellness is going to be on the forefront of my mind!!  This will not include only physical wellness, but spiritual wellness too!
I just have to determine to take better care of myself-for me and for my family!!  I want to be around a long, long time and taking better care of myself is key!!

So, before I went to bed last night I read my bible, did my bible study and drank plenty of water.  This morning I actually got my behind on that wonderful treadmill collecting dust in my basement!  Ha Ha!  Good for Me!!!   30 days of Wellness-I can do this!!!

Mark your Calendars!!!

For those of you who live in the Bozeman area,  mark your calendars!!!  I am planning on holding an Open House in my home on Thursday May 28th!!!  There will be a free Make 'n Take, food, fun and lots of Prizes!!!!  I will be showcasing the scrapbooking goodies I have in stock from AC Bailey!!  I can't wait to get this new venture off the ground!!  I will be formally announcing the crop on Thursday, so stay tuned!!!

I've Been Tagged!!!

Finally, I was tagged by my friend Jocelyn.....The tag is  to post one of the first LO's that I did....so promise you will not laugh!!!! I also need to tag five other ladies to play along so.....

I decided to choose one of my first Little Red Scrapbook layouts.  That was so long ago now!!!  I have literally made hundreds of layouts since this first one, but I still love this layout.  It was the first time I got out of the box and had fun scrapping and I have never looked back!!  What a ride this has been!!!  I have made so many friends and I have had the time of my life!!!  I love this craft and thanks to Jocelyn for taking me back to the early days!  I also have to say that patterned paper has come a long way too!!!  Those older papers make me chuckle...thank goodness we are all evolving!!!
I am going to tag Lisa Spiegel, Mary Jo, Carla, Lorry and Mara!!!
I can't wait to see your work from long ago!!!

I wish you all a glorious day!!!

Happy Mother's Day!!!!

I am hoping you had a fantastic Mother's Day!!!  My kids and my sweetie spoiled me rotten and I enjoyed every minute of it!!!  We should have a couple of Mother's Day celebrations sprinkled thoughout the year!!  Wouldn't you just love it???

This weeks Scrapping the Music Challenge #84 is based on Son of Man by Phil Collins from the movie, The Lion King.  Such great lyrics in this one to scrap!!!!
I used the lyrics, Journey from Boy to Man for my title and I printed the rest of the lyrics on a transparency and layered it under the circle of patterned paper.  The main lyrics I loved were with Faith and Understanding you will Journey from Boy to Man and you can see from the progression in the pictures my boy is in the process of making that journey.  They grow up way toooo fast!!  I love you Benny and I am sooooo proud of you!!

Thanks for stopping by my blog!
I hope you have a fantastic Monday!!!

Memories of Yesterday

I found this sweet picture of my girls and it reminded me how much they loved playing with boxes.  Of course, their favorite boxes were the large refridgerator type that made amazing play houses.  But size really didn't matter.  You can see from this picture the box they were playing in wasn't very big, but it made four hours of fun with their daddy.
This is one of the many things I love about scrapping.  Who would even remember hours of fun with  boxes, except that one day, my kids will open up their albums and see these pictures and remember the good old days!!!  I used my Color Me Daisy May kit and some ribbon and embroidery floss from my stash.  This is a very basic design, but it is the picture that speaks volumes!!

I hope you all have a great weekend!!!

Happy Packing my sweet girl!!!  Next week will be here before you know it!!!

I hope you all have a great day!!!!

Good Morning Everyone!!!

Happy Monday!!!  It looks like we are going to see some sunshine today!!  In fact we have seen some sunshine on and off the for the last couple of days!!! It is heavenly!!!

I have to take a moment to think of my mom.  Yesterday was her birthday and Mother's Day is coming soon.  Holidays and Birthdays without your loved ones makes a heart heavy!!!  The following picture was taken in 2006 at Heidi's graduation.  I wish we had more time with her!!  That was the last time she ever visited Montana.  If we had only known!!  Next week we will be planting a Crabapple Tree in her honor.  It will leaf out and flower every year around her birthday and I will think of her with happy thoughts!!
I miss you mom!!!

This weekend the boys had a soccer game, but Ben was injured and didn't play.  They lost 4-0, but it really wasn't a bad game.  Next week the team heads over to Hamilton which is about 3 1/2 hours from here.  It is a beautiful drive and I always enjoy the scenery.  I hope Ben is all healed up and ready to go next week!!!

We also traveled to Billings on Saturday for the State Music Festival.  The Chanson singers did an amazing job with their songs and scored a one, which is the highest score you can receive!!  I was soooo happy I was able to go!!!  The songs they sang totally moved me and I wouldn't have wanted to miss it for the world!!!  Wouldn't you know, though, that when I pulled out my camera there was no disc.  What a dork!!!  Oh well, I won't forget that performance!!! It was amazing!

Here is the first in my Color Me Daisy May Kit projects.  I wanted to play with the Maya Mists and so I cut out a piece of cardstock from my stash and laid it in the middle of my patterned paper and used it as a mask.  I sprayed around the edges and these are the results:
I look forward to playing with the Maya Mists more in the future.  This layout is of my sweet dd Bethany.  She is such a cutie!!!  Those pictures grab my heart everytime I look at them!!!

I have some fun news!!!!  My friend Stacey over at ScrapStreet Magazine used one of my projects in her May Article, Chic Street.  You can view it Here.

I hope you have an amazing Monday!!
